It’s the sale of the century—and you don’t even need to leave your home! Valve revealed in a press statement today that they’re going to be giving away access to Steam, their popular distribution platform, completely for free this upcoming Monday.
“You’re going to want to get in there as soon as possible before they run out of .exes,” says one user on a Reddit thread about the special promotion. “These things are going to go like hotcakes.”
Steam, the smash-hit game distribution platform brought to us by the creators of high-octane titles such as Portal, Half-Life, and Counter-Strike, is used by developers worldwide to bring their games digitally to their ravenous, frothing player bases. Valve reported 125 million active lifetime users on the platform in 2016, so it’s no wonder that they can afford to open the gates for free for just one day.
When we asked Gabe Newell, President and CEO over at Valve, about the promotion, he had this to say: “Yeah, it’ll be free on Monday. Why are you being so specific about it being free on Monday?”
“I’m really excited for Monday to kick off,” claims one diehard fan who Nerfwire found camping outside Valve’s Bellevue, Washington headquarters during a non-corporate-espionage related outing. “I can’t wait to download it and spend at least 130 dollars on unfinished releases and DLC items.”
Also, make sure to pick up UPlay at its promotional price of 60 dollars this Monday!
